An 18-year-old female was injured in an overnight shooting in Owensboro, and two juveniles have been charged following the incident, according to police.

According to the Owensboro Police Department, officers responded just after 1 a.m. on May 2 to a report of a shooting in the 2700 block of Cravens Avenue. Officials said witnesses reported seeing a male shooting at a fleeing vehicle at a nearby gas station in the 800 block of Carter Road.

Police reported that several shell casings were located in the area, along with a blood trail leading to a nearby residence. Inside, officers found an 18-year-old female suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, described by OPD as non-life-threatening. Officers provided medical aid until she was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for treatment, and the victim has since been released, officials said.

According to investigators, an altercation occurred between the victim and occupants of a vehicle. Detectives believe shots were fired from inside the vehicle, striking the victim before it left the scene.

A male juvenile then fired at the fleeing vehicle, police said. He was taken into custody and charged with possession of a handgun by a minor (first offense) and first-degree wanton endangerment.

Authorities said a second juvenile, believed to be the person who shot the victim, was later located and arrested in Spencer County.

According to OPD, detectives believe this was an isolated incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
