A 22-year-old has been charged after discharging a firearm in an apartment on Friday night, according to the Owensboro Police Department.
According to OPD, officers responded just after 10 p.m. on May 1 to a report of a firearm discharge in the 200 block of Heartwood Court on the west side of Owensboro. Officials said the caller stated he heard a loud gunshot and later discovered a bullet hole in both his ceiling and mattress.
OPD said officers contacted the upstairs tenant, where a matching bullet hole was found in the bedroom floor directly above the caller’s apartment. The tenant admitted to an accidental discharge while he was handling the firearm, officials said.
The upstairs tenant was identified as 22-year-old Jaontee Cooper, who was charged with second-degree wanton endangerment. No injuries were reported.
