Visitors spent a record $262.9 million in Daviess County during 2025, generating $20 million in state and local tax revenue and supporting 2,034 jobs, according to newly released tourism impact data from the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

The figures represent a $13.2 million increase in visitor spending and a $900,000 increase in state and local tax revenue compared to 2024, continuing a multi-year trend of growth for the local tourism economy.

Local hotels also achieved an all-time occupancy record of just over 60% during the year, according to Visit Owensboro.

“These numbers don’t just set a new record. They represent the largest year-over-year increase in tourism impact in the history of Owensboro-Daviess County,” said Mark Calitri, president and CEO of Visit Owensboro.

Calitri said the growth reflects efforts to create new events, expand sports tourism, support attractions, grow convention business, and continue investing in the destination. He credited hospitality workers, event organizers, volunteers, tourism stakeholders, and sports organizers for helping create a visitor experience that continues to attract travelers to the area.

Visit Owensboro Board Chairman Claude Bacon said the results are the product of years of focused effort by community leaders and tourism partners.

“The Visit Owensboro Board, City of Owensboro, and Daviess County Fiscal Court have been intentional about building Owensboro-Daviess County into a destination that attracts visitors, supports local businesses, and creates real economic opportunity,” Bacon said.

According to the report, tourism supported 2,034 jobs in Daviess County and generated $61.4 million in labor income during 2025.

Among local tourism and entertainment businesses reporting continued growth is Owensboro Racing and Gaming, which completed its first year of operation in February.

“We have been pleased with the support and excitement from the Owensboro and surrounding communities,” said Steve Roof of Owensboro Racing and Gaming.

Roof said attendance at the facility has increased 15% year over year.

“Our goal continues to be providing outstanding customer service and becoming the premier entertainment destination in the region,” Roof said.

Owensboro Racing and Gaming currently employs approximately 170 full-time team members, according to Roof.

Statewide, tourism generated $14.6 billion in visitor spending, supported nearly 97,000 jobs, and produced $1.1 billion in state and local tax revenue during 2025, according to the report.
