Owensboro Health facilities are not as COVID-19 safe as I had hoped. Wednesday I got a lab test at the hospital where I was checked in by two people in the lobby and cared for by two people in the treatment room.

I asked the latter two when they got their COVID-19 vaccine. Neither had done so. One said members of her family had had it. That means 50% of my caregivers were at risk for contracting or spreading the virus.

While an employee has a right to confidentiality and personal decision making, each also has responsibility for the harm they may cause others.

Owensboro Health and other health agencies should inform the public what percentage of their workers have been vaccinated so that each of us can make an informed decision about the safety of the care we receive. The hospital has a responsibility to truthfully report how safe an environment it is for the sick and vulnerable.
