By means of introduction, I am Bill Thompson a retired major with the Daviess County Sheriff Office. Prior to joining the Daviess County Sheriff Office, I also retired as a Lt. Colonel with the Owensboro Police Department. I am presently working as a detective with the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force, covering a large portion of Western Kentucky.

I convey to you the above information to simply say that I have nearly 5 decades of prior law enforcement experience. I believe that gives me a unique perspective into the inner workings of the major law enforcement agencies in Western Kentucky.

I worked with Barry Smith at the Sheriff ‘s Office, both he and I holding the rank of major before he was appointed by one man to be the sheriff. At the same time, Brad Youngman actually worked for me in the detective division. I worked closely with both men.

I am not writing this correspondence to bash either candidate, I simply truly believe that Brad Youngman is the most qualified candidate for the next Sheriff of our county.

Brad has prepared himself for that position all of his life. As a LIFELONG conservative Republican, he has demonstrated all of his adult life the values he learned from his parents. He joined many civic organizations as a young man, and has continued to actively participate in those organizations, even being the chairman of some of the boards he serves on.

His leadership abilities are evident, retiring as a captain in the U.S. Army, obtained the rank of sergeant and a shift commander at OPD, a detective at the Sheriff’s Office, and now in charge of the School Resource Officers in the Daviess County school system.

At every stop along the way in his career, he has had the opportunity to lead, and perhaps more importantly, to study leadership qualities, or lack thereof, of people he has worked for or around. His diversified law enforcement background has uniquely qualified him for his next step in his career.

It’s time for a changing of the guard at the Sheriff’s Office, someone who will look at every aspect of the office and adjust accordingly. His platform outlines his plans for the future of the Sheriff’s Office and the citizens it serves. It’s time to introduce new ideas, not do things because it’s been done like this for many years.

Study his platform, examine his past statements about what he intends to do and change. Don’t vote for someone because the past sheriff endorsed him. Educate yourself on the main issues of law enforcement, and what he intends to change and improve. If you sincerely examine his objectives I believe you will agree with my opinion.

Vote Brad Youngman for Sheriff because he is the best candidate.
