SPLC celebrates the removal of the bronze soldier from outside the Daviess County Courthouse. This win belongs to activists like Rev. Rhondalyn Randolph of the Owensboro NAACP Branch 3107, who worked tirelessly to remove this symbol of hate and white supremacy from their community. However, the work is not yet finished. SPLC urges Owensboro to remove the pedestal alongside the monument. We believe that pedestals represent the unfinished business of reckoning with our country’s Confederate past, and we look forward to a future where all vestiges of the Confederacy — both symbolic and structural — are eliminated.

Sincerely,
