In response to [a recent Letter to the Editor]:

One in every five women experience completed or attempted rape in their lifetime, so for you to downplay rape as “tired rhetoric” to encourage this attack on women is unconscionable and vile. It is disrespectful to the women in our community who have been raped.

A2 denies women basic human rights essential to health care, specifically poor women who do not have the means to travel. We have already had several cases, one in Owensboro, where a woman has had to travel to a civilized state to have a health care procedure to save her life. This young lady could have died. Her water broke at 16 weeks and the doctors here refused to help her. Abortion is health care and it saved hers. If you cherish life, you certainly have an awkward way of showing it. The Right to Life agenda also seeks to deny specific contraceptives. This attack on women is exposed when they target the pill and the IUD, but forget to mention the condom or the ever popular vasectomy.

Obviously, pushing your religious views onto others isn’t Democratic. The GOP agenda to legislate their Christian beliefs is authoritarian, unconstitutional, and the opposite of freedom. It may be your belief that abortion is murder, but I believe differently. I believe viability is achieved at 21 weeks and science agrees with me. To suggest otherwise is simply an uneducated opinion.

Push back from men on this issue is unfortunately predicable, but I’m always flabbergasted when women attack other women. We all deserve a voice, even if it doesn’t sound like yours.

Vote No on Amendment 2.
