This letter is to highlight misinformation contained in [a recent Letter to the Editor]. [The writer] states in reference to a full and total ban on abortion as proposed in Kentucky Amendment 2 “abortion is not healthcare.” (See full page ads in newspapers state-wide signed by hundreds of Kentucky doctors who confirm ABORTION is HEALTHCARE.)

According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, “Facts are very important, especially when discussing the health of women and the American public. The fact is, abortion is an essential component of women’s health care. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), with over 57,000 members, maintains the highest standards of clinical practice and continuing education for the nation’s women’s health physicians. Abortion care is included in medical training, clinical practice, and continuing medical education.”

From the Healthlaw.org: “Abortion is health care. Period. The National Health Law Program works at every level to protect access to the full range of essential reproductive health services, including abortion.”

The World Health Organization states that, “when carried out properly through one of the recommended methods, abortion is a safe health care intervention. Abortion is a common experience and a central component of sexual and reproductive health care, occurring in every country and every community.” (Jul 20, 2022)

There are multiple additional references through your OB/GYN and on the internet discussing the inherent dangers of pregnancy and necessity of full access to reproductive services for women and girls.

EVERY single citizen in Kentucky DESERVES access to CRITICAL HEALTHCARE services close to home, no matter how ‘empowered’ [the writer] feels about taking away Women’s Rights to Bodily Autonomy and Family Right to Reproductive Privacy, tired and weak though she feels your RIGHTS are.

TRUST women and RESPECT their doctors.

Vote NO on Amendment 2 to GUARANTEE basic human rights to essential healthcare to EVERY woman in the state of Kentucky.

Vote NO on Amendment 2 if you want to keep women and girls who are important to you in Kentucky.
