The final round of pool play in the Owensboro Invitational Tournament sponsored by Evansville Teachers Federal Credit Union wrapped up early Saturday afternoon, and the Owensboro Catholic girls are the only local team to advance to the championship tonight.

The Lady Aces will play Webster County at 6 p.m. at the Sportscenter, and the boys’ game featuring John Hardin and Hopkinsville will be the tournament finale.

SATURDAY’S RESULTS — GIRLS
Owensboro Catholic 60, Calloway County 43
The Lady Aces (7-2) totally dominated the Lady Lakers (8-2), but Calloway County was awarded 30 free throws to keep the game from getting blown more wide open.

The Catholic defense was stingy and only allowed eight made baskets, while the offense was largely able to score at will. Mackenzie Keelin led the way with 17 points.

Sarah Beth Clemens added 15 and Hannah McKay scored 14. Caroline Reid (6), Madelyn Lyon (4) and Ally Maggard (4) also scored.

Most of the damage by Calloway County was done by Charlee Settle, though all 17 of her points came at the line. Keelie Pickett hit four 3-pointers to finish with 15 points.

Hopkinsville 67, Owensboro 66
The Lady Devils (6-6) nearly erased a 15-point deficit to get back in the win column, but the Lady Tigers (9-4) were able to hold on for the win.

After scoring only 19 points in the first half, Owensboro put up 22 in the third quarter and 25 in the fourth. Mykael Winstead scored 14 points in the second half and led the team with 20 total.

Tayonna Greer hit four 3-pointers and had 14 points, while Amaya Curry scored 10 of her 12 points after halftime. Also scoring for the Lady Devils were Lyric Lawrence (8), Victoria Whitlock (8), Nia Gonzo (2) and Lemiya Greer (2)

Webster County 66, Apollo 38
The E-Gals (8-3) struggled out of the gate and couldn’t recover, and their six-game win streak ended at the hands of the Lady Trojans (11-0).

Webster County knocked down 11 3-pointers, and Karlie Keeney had three of them to finish with a game-high 23 points.

Apollo was led by Lexi Shadowen’s 9 points, while Brylee Rhodes and Zoe Floyd added 8 each. Kassidy Daugherty (6), Addison Carter (5) and Amber Dunn (2) rounded out the scoring.

Madisonville-North Hopkins 63, Daviess County 34
The Lady Panthers (0-10) weren’t able to keep up with the Lady Maroons (7-3), and big first half left Daviess County facing a 36-17 deficit.

Claire Johnson hit five 3-pointers and led the Lady Panthers with 15 points, and Jersey Vanover knocked down two from long range for 6 points.

Katie Mewes (4), Kailey Bowers (4), Brooklyn Daugherty (4) and Ella Payne (1) also scored.

SATURDAY’S RESULTS — BOYS
Owensboro 75, Monroe County 62
After handing Owensboro Catholic their first loss Friday, the Red Devils (6-4) got another win by using 22 points from Darrion Wimsatt to take down the Falcons (6-5).

Monroe County held a 21-12 lead after the first, but 12 points from Amari Wales helped Owensboro go into halftime with a 40-36 advantage.

Wimsatt scored 16 of his points in the second half to keep the team out front and extend their lead. Wales finished the game with 15 points.

Others scoring for the Red Devils were Jaiden Greathouse (13), Monte Owsley (9), Gavin Wimsatt (8), Aireon Phillips (4), Tyren Hayden (2), Isaac Humphrey (2).

Hopkinsville 60, Owensboro Catholic 45
The Aces (7-2) suffered a second straight loss at the hands of the Tigers (8-2), who are on a four-game win streak.

Hopkinsville got out to a quick start, and an undersized Catholic was never able to catch up. The Tigers used seven 3-pointers to maintain a lead the rest of the game.

John Parker hit seven of eight free throws and led the Aces with 11 points, and Drew Hartz added 10 off the bench. Peyton Survant hit the team’s only two 3-pointers and finished with 9 points.

Others scoring came from Andrew Riney (6), Brian Griffith (4), Ji Webb (3) and Zach Cecil (2).

John Hardin 65, Daviess County 61
The Panthers (3-6) narrowly missed out on posting back-to-back wins for the first time this season, but the Bulldogs (8-0) were able to hold on and remain undefeated.

The Panthers went in front early and carried a 34-28 lead into halftime, but John Hardin outscored the Panthers by eight in the third. They only hit two shots in the fourth, but the Bulldogs hit nine free throws down the stretch to hang on for a victory.

Dakota Walden led the Panthers with 24 points, and Gavan Ray had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Logan Hillard added 12 points, Ryan Thomson had 6 and Bo Stratton scored 2.
