Apollo (3-19) got their second win in three games, and it was a wild finish as they were barely able to fend off Ohio County (12-11) at home. Malik Wilson led with 17 points and a handful of highlight plays.

Apollo used a stout defense early, but couldn’t get shots to fall the other end. With time about to expire in the first quarter, Wilson fired an underhand pass through traffic to Landon Hamilton, whose score tied the game at 15-15.

Apollo went up 30-25, but Ohio County closed the half on a 9-0 run to take a 34-30 lead at the break. Ohio County stayed in front for most of the third before a pair of free throws by Jaden Kelly tied the game at 41-41 with 1:23 left in the quarter.

An Apollo late 3-pointer bounced off the rim, but Wilson flew in and nearly got a dunk on the putback. The score at the buzzer left the teams’ tied at 43-43 heading into the final frame.

The only lead in the fourth for Ohio County came on a 3-pointer with 3:05 to go, but Ryan Ash hit a jumper with a hand in his face at the other end that put Apollo up for good. They went up by as many as four but struggled to hit free throws that could have put the game away.

Ohio County had one last chance, inbounding the ball from half court with 3.9 to play. They did get a shot up that was nowhere close to the rim, and Apollo escaped with a win.
