KWC women win 10th straight, men fall at home

The Kentucky Wesleyan University women’s basketball team extended their win streak to 10 games by edging past Hillsdale 71-70 in the final minutes at home Thursday night. The men’s team struggled to score, falling 57-47 in the second game of the G-MAC doubleheader.

WOMEN
The Panthers (14-3, 10-1) and Hillsdale (8-10, 6-6) battled all night, but a late push by Wesleyan helped them come away with a win.

Trailing by six, the Panthers used a 9-0 run to regain the lead. Keelie Lamb hit a layup and an and-1 to put the team up 69-68 with 1:25 to play. Kelsey Ivers extended the lead with a pair of free throws, thought the Chargers got a laup at the other end.

Hillsdale got the ball back with a chance to score on the final possession, but Lamb drew a charge in the lane to seal the win.

Kaylee Clifford led the Panthers with 17 points, while Lamb scored 16. Jenna Martin had 14 and Emma Johnson scored 11 off the bench. Clifford and Lamb led

MEN
Hillsdale (13-5, 9-2 G-MAC) took a 10-point lead through the first 11 minutes of the game and largely maintained their distance for the rest of the game.. The Charges led by as many as 13 in the period, but the Panthers went into halftime facing a 26-15 deficit.

The Chargers extended went up 32-19 before the Panthers (7-9, 5-5 G-MAC) started a run with a 3-pointer from Deng Mayot.

Adam Goetz converted a pair of free throws to end a 12-3 rally, trimming the deficit to 35-31. The Chargers slowly stretched their lead back out for the 10-point win.

Erik Bell was the lone Panther to reach double figures with 17 points. He also pulled in 7 rebounds. Mohamed Abu Arisha added 7 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.
