BOYS
John Hardin 72, Owensboro Catholic 63
The Aces hit seven 3-pointers and went 16-for-20 from the line, but the Bulldogs (13-0) hit 30 free throws on 43 attempts to help them remain undefeated. It’s the third consecutive loss for OCHS and their fifth in the last seven games.

Drew Hartz led the scoring effort for the Aces, hitting three 3-pointers and scoring 19 points off the bench. He had 16 in the first half to help Catholic take a 36-31 advantage at the break.

John Hardin controlled the third to go up by six, and they added to their lead in the final frame.

Catholic returns home Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. to host Trinity.

GIRLS
Sacred Heart 50, Owensboro Catholic 48
The Lady Aces (9-6) held a slim lead at halftime, but the Valkyries (8-5) got enough defensive stops late to squeak out a win. Hannah McKay posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds for Catholic.

It was back-and-forth early, but the Lady Aces took a 14-10 lead after the first quarter. They held a 28-25 advantage at halftime, but Sacred Heart went on top in the third quarter.

Despite a +11 rebounding advantage, the Lady Aces couldn’t capitalize. They were outscored 28-16 in the paint.

Catholic will return home Tuesday to play at 5:30 p.m.

University Heights 54, Trinity 49
The Lady Raiders (6-6) couldn’t quite overcome a poor second quarter, falling on the road to the Lady Blazers (9-4). Though they scored 21 in the third, Trinity only got two points in the second on a pair of free throws by Cassidy Morris.

Nina Wathen scored 12 of her team-high 17 points in the second half, and the team went 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the final two periods after missing 10 in the first half.

Josie Aull scored 12 points, knocking down four 3-pointers.

Trinity will play again Tuesday when they host Daviess County at 6 p.m.
