After their back-and-forth game went to overtime, the Trinity boys’ basketball team came out with a 67-61 victory over Edmonson County in the first round of the 3rd Region All “A” Classic. The girls’ team fell 68-46 in the opening game of the doubleheader at home on Thursday.

BOYS
The Raiders (9-6) stepped up their effort in the extra period, making big plays on both ends to get past the Wildcats (7-10). Four players scored in overtime, and a 3-pointer by Joe Brown opened up a lead.

“We were much more aggressive attacking the basket, and my guys moved the ball — and themselves — well to get open shots,” said Trinity head coach Nathan West. “Our defense was also much more disciplined in the overtime. Joe had a great ‘wall-up’ to force an air ball, and Landon Hall made a game-sealing block.”

Trailing 12-10 after the first quarter, the Raiders used 9 points from Hall in the second to take a 33-30 lead at the half. The Wildcats went up by 3 points going into the final frame.

Though they struggled at the line most of the night, Trinity went 8-for-11 at the line in the fourth to force overtime, where Trenton Morris sank the only two free throw attempts by the team.

Trinity will now play Frederick Fraize at 7 p.m. Saturday at Hancock County in the semifinal of the tournament.
