Trinity teams drop close contests in district doubleheader

Both Trinity basketball teams came up just short in a 12th District doubleheader on the road at Butler County. The girls weren’t able to hold on to a late lead in a 72-65 loss, while the boys were edged out 69-67 in the second game.

The teams return to action Monday for another district doubleheader, as they host Edmonson County starting a 6 p.m. with the girls’ game.

GIRLS
Cassidy Morris scored 30 and Josie Aull added 20, but the Lady Raiders (6-10, 1-2) couldn’t hold off a late push by the Lady Bears (4-16, 1-4).

Trinity struggled at the free throw line, where they went 22-for-40, but they still held a lead after halftime and the third quarter.

Jaelyn Taylor of Butler County scored 12 points in the fourth quarter to lead the come-from-behind win. The Lady Bears hit eight 3-pointers on the night.

BOYS
The Raiders (10-8, 2-1) hit nine 3-pointers, but they still fell just short against the Bears (12-6, 3-2). Will Edge knocked down three from long range, while Joe Brown and Brendan Wathen each hit two.

The teams were tied after the first quarter, but Butler County gained a 36-31 edge by halftime. The Raiders closed the deficit to 1 point heading into the fourth.
