Local swimmers and divers will begin competition at the state championships today after a strong showing during the regional meet earlier this month. The 2019 Pannell Swim Shop/KHSAA State Swimming & Diving Championships will be held at the Ralph Wright Natatorium in Louisville.
Owensboro and Owensboro Catholic have athletes in both swimming and diving events, and Daviess County also has one diver who qualified. Daviess County and Apollo also have relay teams that qualified only as alternates.
This year’s competition schedule has been restructured and will begin with diving preliminaries today. Friday will feature all boys’ swimming events and the boys’ diving finals, while Saturday will follow the same timeline for the girls’ events.
For the diving competition, the top 16 participants advance to the final. In swimming events, the top eight finishers from preliminary heats will advance to the championship. The next eight fastest finishers will participate in the consolation final.
