The Trinity girls’ basketball team nearly pulled off a fourth-quarter comeback, but they came up just short in a 45-43 loss to Edmonson County in the 12th District championship.

The Lady Raiders (12-18) kept things tight early and only trailed 22-21 at the half. The Lady Cats (24-7) used a strong third period to build an 11-point lead and they were able to hang on for the win.

Cassidy Morris and Nina Wathen each scored 12 points for Trinity, and Georgia Howard had 9. Howard hit three 3-pointers, and her two in the third were the only points for the Lady Raiders in the quarter.

Morris, Wathen and Josie Aull were named to the All-District team following the game.

As the district runner-up, Trinity is guaranteed a spot in the 3rd Region Tournament next week, though their opponent is yet to be decided.

Edmonson Co. 8-14-16-7–45
