Trinity basketball teams come up short on road

The Trinity basketball teams lost both ends of a 12th District doubleheader at Grayson County on Friday. The girls’ second-half comeback bid came up short in a 56-49 loss, while the boys were edged 54-51 in a tight contest.

GIRLS
The Lady Raiders (9-17) fell behind early and faced a 16-8 hole after the first quarter. The Lady Cougars (11-14) extended their lead to take a 36-20 advantage at the half.

Trinity closed the gap over the second half but ran out of time in the comeback effort. Josie Aull led the Lady Raiders with 15 points, all off 3-pointers.

BOYS
It was a back-and-forth game for the Raiders (13-13), and they fell just short against the Cougars (13-14) for the second time this season.

Trinity took a slim lead after the first quarter, but Grayson County came back to go up 23-21 by halftime. Both teams had a big third quarter, and they were tied 43-43 heading into the final frame.

Each team had four baskets in the fourth, but the Cougars also made three free throws while the Raiders didn’t earn a trip to the line.

Trenton Morris led Trinity with 14 points, and Ethan Howard had 13.
