The Kentucky Wesleyan College women’s basketball team will put their home win streak on the line as they begin their quest for a conference championship today.

The Panthers (22-6) finished in a three-way tie for first place in the G-MAC standings — their best ever regular season finish — but took the No. 2 seed for the tournament based on tiebreakers.

Wesleyan went 15-0 at home this season and will host No. 7 seed Ohio Dominican (15-13) in the first round of the G-MAC Championship at 3:30 p.m. today. In their only meeting this season, the Panthers cruised to a 75-44 road victory.

The semifinal and championship games will be held Friday and Saturday at the site of the highest remaining seed after all quarterfinals are completed.

It’s been historic season so far for the Panthers, who had never before finished a regular season undefeated at the Owensboro Sportscenter. They also posted the most regular-season victories, breaking the previous best of 21 set in the 1991-92 campaign.

Wesleyan leads the conference in points per game (77.8) and has the second-highest margin of victory (14.3 points). They also far outpace the rest of the conference in turnover margin (5.11).

Ohio Dominican averages 68.1 points per game and has been outscored by an average of 3.9 points per night. They also have a -2.5 turnover ratio.

The Panthers have made the conference tournament every year since joining the G-MAC in 2013-14. They won the tournament in their first season as members and followed it up with a loss in the championship the following year. Wesleyan lost in the semifinals in 2015-16 and has come up short in the first round the past two years.
