Windy Hollow Speedway is a week away from the beginning of their 2019 season, which begins April 7 with the Lumberjack Smackdown. Operator Misty Westerfield said the event is a benefit race to help long-time friend and racer Randle Sweeney as he battles cancer.

This event is paying $1,820 plus added bonus money to the winner of the Open Wheel Modifieds.

There is also an auction, plus the regular weekly racing classes — Cruisers, Rusty Bolts, Bomber and Mini Stocks. On select dates, Open Wheel Modifieds and Lightning Sprints will be in action this season as well.

“Our schedule will feature several special events from April to October, including a 100-lap Enduro race each month on top of our weekly classes,” Westerfield said. “The Enduro race is basically racing a vehicle that can be driven on the street, however, all the glass is removed and some safety items added for drivers protection.”

In August, Windy Hollow Speedway will host the MARS Super Late Model Series during the Owensboro-Daviess County Motorsports Festival.

“This is by far the largest late models event to ever be hosted at Windy Hollow, paying an astonishing $10,000 to win,” Westerfield said.

All of the races are tentatively scheduled to take place on Sundays with the exception of the late models event during the motorsports festival. Gates open at 3 p.m. with racing starting around 6 p.m.

“For anyone that is an adrenaline junkie that has never attended a race at Windy Hollow Speedway, they are missing out,” she said. “Side-by-side, fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat racing excitement every time the gates open. There are many people who sit at home and watch NASCAR races on TV and have never been to their local race track. The excitement offered at the local tracks is definitely much more elevated that what you’re seeing on TV.”
