The Panthers (3-4) split a pair of games in the first day of the Fort Walton Beach Bash, a spring tournament that continues through Thursday.

Against Jeffersontown, the teams each scored a run in the first inning before playing six scoreless frames. The Chargers (5-3) exploded for seven runs in the top of the eighth, and Daviess County could only push two across in the bottom of the inning.

Nolan Boswell (2) and Jacob Crabtree manufactured the only hits for the Panthers. Ryan Thomson took the loss after pitching the final inning.

Against Hopkins County Central, the Panthers fought back from a three-run deficit and got a home run from Wesley Hamilton to come away with a win. They tied the game with three runs in the fourth, added one in the fifth, and scored three more in the sixth inning.

Garrett Small had two hits and scored once for Daviess County, while Hamilton crossed the plate twice and had two RBIs. Austin Curtis picked up the win, giving up six hits and striking out five over five innings.

Henry County 11, Owensboro Catholic 8
The Aces (5-4) weren’t able to hold on to a late lead, as the Wildcats (5-1) scored nine runs in the top of the seventh inning in the first day of the Fort Walton Beach Bash. Owensboro Catholic nearly made the comeback, but three runs in the bottom of the inning weren’t enough.

Henry County put two on the board in the first inning, and the Aces got one back in the bottom half before going in front with two in the second. They also scored one in both the third and sixth frames for a 5-2 lead.

Sam McFarland led the offense, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and a pair of RBIs. Finley Munsey and Luke Scales also doubled. Andrew Wiman and Jamison Wall each had two hits and scored twice.

McFarland started on the mound, giving up three hits and striking out seven through five innings. Everett Munsey took the loss, going 1.2 innings and giving up six runs on four hits.
