SOFTBALL RECAPS
Apollo 12, Raceland 2
The E-Gals (4-3) got their third straight win and rolled to a five-inning victory in the first game of the Hit the Beach Classic in Panama City, Fla. They collected 13 hits, scoring five runs in the first inning before adding three in the fourth and four in the fifth.

The top five batters each scored two runs and combined for six hits and seven RBIs. Keely Eans knocked in three runners, while Mattie Lyons, Hallie Wilson and Lauren Whitehouse each drove in two. Madison Julian went 3-for-3 at the plate.

Eans earned the win in three innings of work, and Lyons closed out the game. They allowed only three hits.

West Florida 3, Owensboro Catholic 0
The Lady Aces (3-3) couldn’t get much going offensively, finishing with only two hits and being shut out in the first game of their spring break tournament in Florida.

Hadley Phelps and Bailey Simone collected a hit apiece. Phelps took the loss, going four innings while giving up five hits and striking out four.

BASEBALL RECAPS
Ashland Blazer 2, Apollo 1
Apollo 11, East Carter 8
The Eagles (3-5) split a pair of games in the first day of the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Apollo collected 18 hits on the day but also committed six errors.

In the first game against Ashland Blazer, the Eagles trailed 1-0 for the entirety of the game before Evan Hodskins was driven in by Tommy Clark in the top of the seventh inning. An error in the bottom half eventually allowed the Tomcats (4-3) to walk away with the win. Daylin Crabtree took the loss, giving up only three hits and two unearned runs while striking out six.

Against East Carter, Apollo’s offense started rolling early and scored a pair of insurance runs in the seventh to get the victory. The Eagles scored in each of the first five innings for a 9-2 lead but gave up six in the fifth inning.

Evan Hodskins went 5-for-5, scoring four runs and driving in two to lead the offense in the second game. Trevor Payne added three hits and scored twice, while had two hits. Maddox and Payne both doubled.

Jakob Helms got the win in 4.2 innings of work, giving up eight runs (six unearned) on six hits and striking out six.

Madison Central 6, Owensboro 5
The Red Devils (5-3) lost for the first time in six games, falling just short in their first game of the Fort Walton Beach Bash. Owensboro had three errors, but the Indians committed five of their own.

Trailing 2-0, the Red Devils plated three in the third inning before falling behind 5-3. Owensboro scored another in the fifth but the Indians again answered, and one more run in the sixth was all the Devils were able to produce the rest of the way.

Tucker Hagain and Isaac Humphrey each had two hits. Humphrey also had a pair of RBIs and a double, and Braxton French tripled. Corey Gibson took the loss in 4.2 innings on the mound.

South Spencer 4, Owensboro Catholic 3 (8 innings)
The Aces (5-5) battled but came up short in the eight inning of the Fort Walton Beach Bash after the Bears (5-4) scored two runs in the top of the frame. The Aces finished with seven errors that led to all four runs for South Spencer.

Catholic fell behind 1-0 but scored a run in the second and another in the third before the Bears tied the game in the fourth inning. Finley Munsey collected two hits, doubled and scored a run to lead the offense. Munsey also took the loss on the mound after pitching the final two innings.

Allen County-Scottsville 4, Daviess County 1
The Panthers (3-5) carried a 1-0 lead into the sixth inning but the Patriots (3-5) scored four unearned runs to take the lead and get a win in the Fort Walton Beach Bash.

Leadoff batter Nolan Boswell scored in the first inning for the lone run on an RBI by Garrett Small. Chandler Froehlich had two hits and a double.

Samuel Johnson took the loss in .2 innings on the mound, giving up three unearned runs.
