Thursday’s spring break baseball/softball action:
BASEBALL
• Daviess County vs. Fairview
• Owensboro vs. North Oldham
• Owensboro Catholic vs. Jeffersontown

SOFTBALL
• Apollo vs. Arnold (Fla.)



BASEBALL RECAPS
Daviess County 13, Fairview 5
The Panthers (5-6) posted their first back-to-back wins by rolling past Fairview in the Fort Walton Beach Bash. Daviess County only outhit Fairview 11-8 but took advantage of 10 errors by the Eagles.

The Panthers took a quick lead with two runs in the first innings and four in the second, eventually adding four more in the fifth to create plenty of separation. Starting pitcher Hunter Payne went four innings and got the win. He and Ryan Thomson combined to strike out eight batters.

Garrett Small tallied three hits including a double and drove in one run. Chandler Froelich also doubled, scoring twice and adding three RBIs. Cole Troutman (2 runs, RBI) and Decker Renfrow (run, RBI) each had two hits. Nolan Boswell, Austin Curtis and Jacob Crabtree each scored twice.

North Oldham 9, Owensboro 4
The Red Devils (6-5) got home runs from Nick Belcher and Trace Grenier, but North Oldham scored five runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to get a win in the Fort Walton Beach Bash.

Tucker Hagan had the only multihit day for Owensboro and scored once. Belcher led with two RBIs. Belcher also took the loss on the mound, giving up five runs on four hits and striking out five through four innings.

Jeffersontown 7, Owensboro Catholic 1
The Aces (6-6) got six hits but were only able to score a single run in the sixth, and Jeffersontown pulled away for a win in the Fort Walton Beach Bash. Andrew Wiman tripled and scored the only run for Owensboro Catholic, and Braden Mundy doubled.

Starting pitcher Finley Munsey took the loss, giving up one run on two hits while striking out five through four innings.

SOFTBALL RECAPS
Arnold (Fla.) 7, Apollo 5
The E-Gals (5-5) used five runs in the sixth inning to attempt a comeback but it wasn’t enough in a loss on the last day of the Hit the Beach Classic in Panama City, Fla.

Eight different players earned a hit, while Madison Shemwell, Mattie Lyons and Abbie Gore collected two each. Gore scored and had an RBI, while Shemwell drove in one and Lyons crossed the plate once.

Arnold went ahead with three runs in the first and doubled the lead in the third before adding one more run in the fourth. Apollo starting pitcher Keely Eans took the loss, giving up four hits over three innings. Madison Julian struck out four in three innings.
