This year’s 3rd Region baseball and softball champions will make a short trip to Bowling Green for their respective semi-state games, as Western Kentucky University was chosen to host both contests. Both games will be played June 1 against the winners of the 4th Region.

The 2019 Whitaker Bank/KHSAA State Baseball Tournament and KHSAA State Softball Tournament will both follow the same format this year, with both fields of 16 starting with eight semi-state matchups. They’ll then each whittle down to a champion in a single-elimination tournament with all remaining games played in Lexington.

The baseball tournament was already a single elimination format, but the semi-state round is a new addition this year. The state tournament rounds, beginning with the quarterfinals, will continue to be played at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

The state softball postseason will look totally different. In addition to the shift to single-elimination, the tournament is also moving away from Owensboro. Beginning with the quarterfinals, the remaining games will be played at John Cropp Stadium in Lexington.

District tournaments will begin May 20, with the winner and runner-up advancing for both baseball and softball. The 3rd Region tournaments are set for the week of May 27, with Owensboro hosting baseball and Hancock County hosting softball.
