Apollo used a handful of extra-base hits for an early advantage and hung on for a 4-2 win at home over Daviess County in an important 9th District softball matchup on Friday night.

The E-Gals (10-10, 4-1 9th District) put themselves in position to win the district outright if they can complete a sweep of the Lady Panthers (13-10, 2-2). Their original meeting has already been rescheduled twice due to weather, but the latest make-up date has not been finalized.

Apollo picked up their third win in a row — all coming against district foes this week — by jumping out to a 3-0 lead against Daviess County.

Hallie Wilson led off the second inning with a double and was driven in by a two-bagger from Madison Lowe. In the third, Brooke Brown singled and Abbie Gore hit a double to put them both in scoring position. Lauren Whitehouse hit a sac fly to score Brown, and Gore scored on another double by Wilson.

Daviess County first got on the board in the fifth inning, as Savanah Northern scored when Sydney Howard reached on an Apollo error. They cut the deficit to 3-2 in the sixth on an RBI single by Kelsey Whistle.

Apollo got one run back in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Keely Eans, who then pitched the final inning to close out the game.

Madison Julian got the win in six innings of work, giving up two runs on five hits with six strikeouts. Hannah Clark took the loss for Daviess County, giving up three runs on five hits in 2.2 innings.

Eans, Whitehouse and Lowe each went 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI a piece. For the Lady Panthers, Whistle and Emily Stanely each had two hits.
