A strong day at the plate helped the Trinity softball team come away with a pair of big wins over Owensboro in a doubleheader at Shifley Park on Tuesday. The Lady Raiders have won three games in a row and nine of their last 11.

In game one, Katherine Hibbitt threw a complete-game shutout and allowed a single hit as Trinity (9-12) won 10-0 in four innings. Playing as the home team in game two, the Lady Raiders came away with a 14-5 victory in six innings after taking advantage of five errors by the Lady Devils (2-17).

GAME 1
Trinity racked up 13 hits over four innings and used three doubles by Nina Wathen to back up the strong performance in the circle by Hibbitt, while four errors plagued Owensboro on defense.

The Lady Raiders batted around in the first and scored five runs on four hits before a double play ended the inning. A two-out double by Wathen plated two more in the third to go along with an RBI by Hibbitt. An RBI single by Cassidy Morris made it 9-0 in the third inning.

Owensboro’s Makayla McKannon led off the bottom of the third by getting hit by a pitch, but she was eventually stranded at third base. Trinity added one more in the fourth inning when Wathen scored on a hit by Georgia Howard.

Wathen finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a pair of runs, while McKenzie Roberts, Savannah Aull and Morris each had two hits.

Madyson Poole had the only hit for Owensboro. Aubrie Schueler took the loss, giving up nine runs (four unearned) on 10 hits in three innings.

Owensboro got on the board first in the second inning with an RBI single by Brooke Keller, though Trinity quickly went in front with two runs in the bottom of the frame.

The Lady Devils then used hits by Schueler, Kaylyn Sowders and Lindsey Gibson to score four runs in the top of the third. The Lady Raiders responded again, putting up six runs for an 8-5 lead. While Owensboro wasn’t able to score again, Trinity scored six more in the fourth to pull away for a victory.

Allie Barnett came in to get the win for the Lady Raiders, allowing no runs on three hits in 3.1 innings. Aull led the Trinity offense and went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, two runs and two walks.

Keller took the loss, allowing 13 runs (11 unearned) on five hits in 3.2 innings. Schueler had two hits and Sowders drove in two for Owensboro.
