In another action-packed day of the region tournament, local teams again found plenty of success and represent nearly half the field that will advance to the state championships.

The 3rd Region championship matches for boys’ and girls’ singles and doubles will all be played simultaneously beginning at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Moreland Park. The champion and runner-up, as well as the other two semifinalists, all advance to state. No consolation match is played to determine third- and fourth-place finishers.

Owensboro Catholic and Daviess County will each send members of the girls teams to state, while Owensboro and Daviess County will have a few of their boys moving on to the next level.

The girls’ doubles region championship will be an all-Owensboro Catholic matchup, as No. 1 seed Sarah Englert/Ashley Fulkerson will play No. 2 seed Alyssa Gatton/Olivia Hayden. Also advancing in girls’ doubles will be Apollo’s No. 3 seed Caitlyn Blandford/Madalyn Hyland, who fell to Gatton/Hayden in the semifinals.

Owensboro Catholic’s Sarah Kate Young, the No. 1 seed in girls’ singles, will play No. 3 seed Colby Dupin of Meade County. Dupin beat No. 5 seed Emmy Moore (OCHS) in the third round.

The boys’ singles championship will also be an all-local matchup, with Owensboro No. 1 seed Dylan Mather facing off against Daviess County No. 3 seed George Hulse. Mather and Hulse beat Owensboro Catholic’s No. 5 seed Nick Boarman and Brett Conder, respectively, in the third round.

Daviess County will also have a shot at the boys’ doubles title, where No. 2 seed Chris Salamah/Dylan McDuffee will play No. 1 seed Whelan/Bradley of Meade County. Owensboro is sending both of their doubles teams to state after AJ Iracane/Grayson McFarland and Paul Iracane/Will Clark each made it to the semifinals.

The OCHS boys’ doubles team of Will Danzer/Davis Brocato and the Apollo girls’ duo of Lauren Clements/Lynzy Schwartz each lost their third-round matches after advancing to day two.
