Schedule set for 3rd Region softball tournament

Following the conclusion of district tournaments earlier this week, the schedule and matchups for the 3rd Region softball tournament have been decided.

The tournament begins Monday and will be played over a three-day span at Vastwood Park in Hawesville with Hancock County High School as the host. All first-round games will be played on the first day and feature district champions versus runners-up based on Saturday’s draw.

The tournament kicks off at noon Monday with Trinity (15-14) facing off against Apollo (15-13). The Lady Raiders won the 12th District for the first time ever, while the E-Gals finished runner-up in the 9th District.

Up next will be 11th District champions Meade County (27-10) in a 2 p.m. slot against Muhlenberg County (13-22), runner-up from the 10th District.

Ohio County (15-12), 10th District winners, will play 11th District runner-up Hancock County (28-9) at 4 p.m. in game three.

Round one will end with an 6 p.m. meeting between 9th District champion Daviess County (21-12) and 12th District runner-up Grayson County (7-25).

Winners advance to semifinals at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Tuesday, and the championship is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Admission is $5 at the gate.
