A handful of local athletes earned some top finishes at Saturday’s Class 3A state track meet in Lexington, including a championship for an Apollo unified team. The Apollo and Owensboro boys’ teams were both in action, while the Daviess County girls also competed.
The Apollo unified teams finished strong in all three of their events, led by a first-place win in the Shot Put (Kevan Lynchard, DC Boone). The Eagles also got unified second-place finishes in Long Jump (Aaron Smith, Mariano McKenzie) and the 4×100 Meter Relay (Marvin Ramirez, Mariano McKenzie, Aaron Smith, Kevan Lynchard).
The Apollo boys’ team finished 36th overall, with their lone three points coming from the sixth-place finish by the 4×800 Meter Relay group of Blake Rigdon, Nicholas Szemethy, Dalton Barnett and Leland Smith.
The Owensboro boys’ team finished 29th, picking up three points each from Jadien Kendall (6th, Discus Throw) and Imonte Owsley (6th, Long Jump).
The Daviess County girls’ earned points in three events and finished 22nd. The 4×800 Meter Relay team of Riliegh Owens, Emily Rempe, Ainsley Taylor and Emily Ann Roberts earned fourth place, while Karlee Hoffman took fourth in the 3200 Meter Run and Emily Rempe was fifth in the 800 Meter Run.
