The season came to an end Saturday for the Owensboro Post 9 Bombers, who fell to Lyon County in the Kentucky American Legion Baseball State Tournament championship for the second year in a row.

The Bombers trimmed a five-run deficit to two late in the game, but Lyon County put up four runs each over the next two frames to walk off with a 13-3 victory in six innings.

Lyon County used a two-run homer in the first inning and another two-run shot in the second to take an early lead, adding a score on a wild pitch in the third. Through three innings, Lyon County only had three hits but drew eight walks en route to a 5-0 advantage.

All three Owensboro runs came in the fifth inning. Ethan Cartwright led off with a double and Daylin Crabtree followed with a single. Jordan Tolle then knocked in Cartwright with a hit, while Crabtree scored on a ground out by Ethan Gibson. Tucker Hagan later singled to drive in Cartwright.

A leadoff solo homer for Lyon County started off the bottom of the inning, and they tacked on three more quickly. The bottom of the sixth started with a pair of walks and hit by pitch, setting up another big inning that led to Lyon County’s win.
