Cal Ripken, Babe Ruth teams wrap up pool play in state tourneys

After a full slate of games Friday, pool play wrapped up for all age groups of the Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth state tournaments.

Single-elimination bracket play begins Saturday for all teams, with championships games set to be played Sunday in all tournaments.

See below for each team’s Friday results and Saturday matchups.

Owensboro Western 15, Germantown 2
Western finished pool play 2-0 with a pair of dominant victories, earning a No. 1 seed heading into Saturday’s bracket play. They square off with No. 2 seed Spencer County in a quarterfinal game, and a win would send them to Sunday’s semifinals.

Owensboro Western 15, LaRue County 14
Okolona 16, Owensboro Western 6
By splitting their games Friday, Western heads into Saturday’s bracket play as a No. 2 seed with a 1-1 pool play record. They face No. 3 seed Mount Washington in the opening round, and with a win would play No. 1 Elizabethtown later Saturday night in the quarterfinals.

Meade County Green 5, Owensboro Western 3
Elizabethtown 22, Owensboro Eastern 0
Owensboro’s Eastern and Western teams will square off in the opening round of bracket play Saturday. Western is a No. 2 seed after going 1-1 in pool play, while Eastern went 0-2 to take a No. 3 seed. The winner will play later in the day against No. 1 see Barren County.

Owensboro Western 16, Ohio County 1
Western took a No. 2 seed after going 1-1 in pool play. They will face No. 3 seed Allen County in the quarterfinals Saturday. A win would allow them to advance to the semifinals against No. 1 seed Muhlenberg County, also played Saturday.

LaRue County 8, Owensboro Western 5
Allen County 16, Owensboro Eastern 15
Another matchup of Eastern and Western teams could take place Saturday if the 10U teams each win their bracket play openers. No. 3 seed Western went 1-1 in pool play and plays No. 3 seed Ohio County, while Eastern went 0-2 and faces No. 2 seed Henderson County.

Germantown 14, Owensboro Eastern 9
Eastern earned a No. 2 seed after finishing pool play 1-1. They will play in the quarterfinals Saturday against the winner of No. 3 seed Prairie Village vs. No. 6 Henderson County. With a win, Eastern would move on to Sunday’s semifinals.


BABE RUTH

Owensboro Daviess County 28, Spencer County 0
ODC wrapped up pool play 2-0 and earned a No. 2 seed heading into bracket play Saturday. They play No. 3 seed Okolona in the quarterfinals, and with a win would play later in the night agains the winner of No. 1 Jeffersontown vs. No. 4 Spencer County.

West Louisville Sports 13, Owensboro Daviess County 9
ODC finished 1-1 in pool play and earned a No. 3 seed. They will play No. 2 seed Okolona on Saturday in the quarterfinals, and with a win would move on to a Sunday semifinal in a rematch with West Louisville.
