The Owensboro Post 9 Bombers are still in contention for a state title after splitting a pair of games Thursday in the Kentucky American Legion Baseball Tournament in Eddyville. Owensboro resumes action Friday, and they have to win twice to advance to Saturday’s championship.

The Bombers couldn’t get much going in their tournament opener, falling 10-0 to Lyon County. Owensboro collected only two hits — a double each by Brennon Williams and Tommy Clark — while seven defensive errors led to six unearned runs.

The Bombers bounced back in the elimination game, topping Oldham County 13-0. Owensboro only finished with five hits, but they drew 15 walks to help score runs. Williams added another double, and Tucker Hagan tripled.

Hagan and Ethan Cartwright each drove in three runs while Williams had two RBIs. Ethan Gibson earned the complete-game pitching win, allowing just one and striking out five.

If Owensboro wins their game at 3:30 p.m. Friday, they would play again at 8 p.m. Another win would allow them to advance to Saturday’s championship, where they’d have to beat the opponent from the winner’s bracket twice.
