The Owensboro RiverDawgs won’t get a chance to defend their Ohio Valley League baseball title after being swept in the first round of the tournament by the Dubois County Bombers.

Owensboro lost 14-4 in seven innings on the road Saturday after falling to the Bombers 15-1 at home Friday, dropping the first two games of the best-of-three series.

In Saturday’s contest, Dubois County used a pair of six-run innings to pull away and put the game out of reach early. They used 10 hits and 10 walks to keep runners on base.

Owensboro’s runs came in the second through fourth frames. The first score came on an RBI single by Tarron Lawson that drove in Josh Bennett. The RiverDawgs then took a brief 2-1 lead in the third when a sac fly by Bennet allowed Kirk Liebert to score.

After Dubois County scored six runs in the bottom of the third, Owensboro’s final runs came in the top of the fourth. Kyle Hogwood singled with two outs to drive in Manny Gonzalez. Hogwood then stole his way to home, but it was the closest the RiverDawgs could get.

Dubois County added six more in the next inning and another in the sixth, allowing them to end the game early in the seventh.
