The Owensboro Southern 11U All-Stars used a pair of three-run innings and a big day at the plate by Ty Ashley for an 8-4 win over Paintsville on Tuesday in the second pool play game of the Little League State Tournament.

The game was delayed two days due to weather conditions, but Southern picked up their second win in as many tries with another pair of pool play games still to play.

Owensboro was first on the board Tuesday night, as a ground out by Lane Hundley drove in Brayden Burger in the top of the second inning. In the third, a two-out single by Ryleigh Logan allowed Ashley to score.

Paintsville quickly took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the third. A two-RBI double was followed by a two-run homer, but they were unable to score again.

Owensboro wasted no time going back in front in the next frame. Ashley tripled with two outs to drive in Geordyn Stevens and Alex Hood. Ashley then scored on a hit by Jayden James.

Ashley drove in two more runs in the sixth inning with a double to center, allowing Hundley and Nolan Johnson to cross the plate. James then drew a walk and later scored on a double by Ty Lillpop.

Ashley led the offense with four RBIs, two runs, a double and a triple. James and Logan also had two hits each.

Logan went 3.1 innings on the mound, allowing three earned runs on three hits while striking out seven. Lillpop finished the game, allowing a single hit and striking out four.

Owensboro will play Ashland on Wednesday and Prestonsburg on Thursday to finish pool play, and the top two teams will advance to the semifinals.
