John Augenstein never trailed in a pair of match-play victories Thursday, advancing to the U.S. Amateur quarterfinals at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club.

Augenstein — currently ranked No. 38 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings — beat two players ranked in the top 10. After claiming a 4 and 2 win over No. 5 Akshay Bhatia in the morning match, the former Owensboro Catholic High School standout earned a 1-up win over No. 9 Ricky Castillo in the Round of 16

Augenstein, a rising junior at Vanderbilt University, will face off against Palmer Jackson in a match that begins at 2 p.m. Live coverage of the quarterfinals begins at 3 p.m. on FS1.

With a win, Augenstein would play in Saturday’s semifinals. The final round is scheduled for Sunday.
