Kenlee Newcom had a hat trick 15 minutes in, and Daviess County got scoring from seven players as they rolled to a 10-0 win over Apollo in 9th District girls’ soccer Tuesday night.

Chloe Hinchcliffe added a pair of goals and an assist, while Meredith Campbell scored once and assisted on three others. All but one goal came off an assist.

“Any time you can have nine assists on 10 goals, it can’t get much better than that,” said head coach David Sandifer. “The girls played well. They did what they had to do and got out of here with a win.”

After jumping out to an 8-0 lead through the first half, the Lady Panthers (7-1, 2-0 9th District) got a pair of quick goals in the second period to pick up the road victory over the E-Gals (0-5, 0-3) in 50 minutes.

“We basically all just kind of stayed wide,” Newcom said of the hot start to the game. “We’d make the diagonal runs and then all the passes were just perfect. Everything laid out perfect.”

Campbell put DC on the board just a few minutes into the game, scoring unassisted after gaining possession near the top of the box.

Newcom knocked in back-to-back goals soon after, scoring both from close range off passes from Campbell and Elizabeth Collier.

Hinchcliffe hit a booming shot from 20 yards out that went into the top left corner of the net, and Newcom’s third goal gave the Lady Panthers a 5-0 lead in the 15th minute.

The sixth goal came on a cross from Maci Sanders that allowed Kayla Vanover to punch it in from the middle of the box. Hinchcliffe’s second goal came after she beat a defender and scored for a 7-0 lead with 8 minutes left in the half.

The final score of the opening period came in the last minute, when Tori Beth Baylis got behind the defense and found the net with about 16 seconds on the clock.

With so many threats on offense, Newcom said the Lady Panthers are able to share the ball and trust that someone is going to be able to convert.

“I think it opens it up for everyone,” she said. “It’s not a one-sided thing. Everyone scores, everyone contributes to the game.”

The first score of the second half came via a header from Steeley Walker off a cross from the left side by Campbell, and the final goal came from Sophie Jagoe.

Others finishing with one assist each were Brooklyn Vincent, Jagoe and Ashlyn Payton.

Daviess County returns to action Thursday with a road trip to Henderson County, while Apollo is off until Saturday when they host Paducah Tilghman.
