The Owensboro boys’ soccer team hung close, but they were never able to take the advantage Tuesday night in a 4-3 road loss to Central Hardin.

In the season opener for both teams, the Bruins (1-0) were first on the board with a goal in the 22nd minute. Owensboro’s response came 15 minutes later on a goal by Grayson McFarland with an assist from Andrew Saltsman.

Central Hardin added a goal midway through the second half, but Saltsman scored the equalizer a couple minutes later. After another Bruins’ goal, Joshua Head leveled the score once more for the Red Devils on an assist by Jose Payne.

The Bruins’ final goal came with just under four minutes to play. Radley Worth finished with four saves in goal for Owensboro.

The Red Devils will return to action Thursday when they travel to play Apollo in both team’s first 9th District game.
