All five local volleyball teams were in action once again Saturday, wrapping up action in their respective playoff brackets of the 19th Annual Apollo Summer Slam. Though no team was able to advance to their championship match, four squads earned at least one victory.

Breckinridge County — defending 3rd Region champion — won the tournament and did not lose a set in five matches.

Apollo and Owensboro Catholic were both in the Gold Division after a pair of wins each Friday, and each had to work around the absence of key players.

The E-Gals dropped their morning match Saturday but bounced back for two victories to close out the day. Apollo played without 6-foot-4 senior Natalie Ewing after she suffered an injury Friday night.

The Lady Aces, playing without senior setter Cecilia Clemens due to illness, lost lost all three games Saturday.

Daviess County won the first round of the Silver Division, then narrowly lost in three sets in game two — losing the last point with a player injured during the entire rally. DC bounced back for a three-set win to finish the tournament.

Owensboro and Trinity each played in the Bronze Division after dropping both games Friday night. The Lady Devils picked up a win in their Saturday finale, while the lone win for the Lady Raiders came in the first match of the day.
