DC sweeps Lady Devils in district opener

The Daviess County volleyball team made quick work of their first match in 9th District action, picking up a 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-17) victory over Owensboro.

Though the Lady Devils (3-10, 0-1 9th District) were able to hang close early in each set, the Lady Panthers (9-2, 1-0) pulled away late for the sweep.

The Lady Panthers were led by Hannah Axley (12 assists, 7 digs, 5 aces), Ryann Keller (17 assists, 3 kills), Kloee Phelps (9 digs, 5 kills), Elizabeth Moore (14 kills) and Chea Bowers (12 digs).

Others helping the cause were Ashton Johnson (10 kills), Kendal Goetz (10 digs), Jasmine Beasley (5 kills, 5 blocks), Kinsley Phelps (4 kills, 4 blocks) and Delaney Evans (3 assists).

Owensboro’s efforts were led by Krystell Pappas (6 digs, 4 kills, 3 assists) and Hannah Ashley (4 digs, 4 assists). Other contributors were Lainey Hayden (5 blocks), Audretta Tyler (5 digs) and Jersie Rhineburger (4 digs).

Daviess County will turn attention to another home match, as they host Muhlenberg County on Thursday. Owensboro will stay on the road Thursday with a trip to Breckinridge County.
