Owensboro’s Wimsatt, DC’s Payne earn OT sports honors

This week’s Owensboro Times sports honors go to Owensboro’s Gavin Wimsatt and Daviess County’s Kayley Payne.

Wimsatt, a sophomore quarterback for the Red Devils, is the Football Player of the Week after earning the most votes in the weekly poll. Wimsatt finished with six total touchdowns last week, going 15-for-23 passing with 305 yards and five touchdowns, adding eight rushes for 21 yards and another score.

Payne, a freshman runner for the Lady Panthers, is the Athlete of the Week after receiving the most votes in the weekly poll. Payne finished fourth overall with personal best time of 21:05.95 at the Muhlenberg County Mustang Stampede.

Next week’s Athlete and Football Player of the Week polls will open Monday morning and run through Wednesday at 5 p.m. Nominees will be based on names and stats submitted by coaches.

Note: Winners of the weekly honors will not be eligible for nomination again.
