SATURDAY’S VOLLEYBALL ACTION:
• Lady Aces fall in All ‘A’ state semis
• E-Gals go 2-3 in Taylor County tournament


LADY ACES FALL IN ALL ‘A’ STATE SEMIS
Owensboro Catholic had a strong run but came up a couple of points shy of advancing to the All “A” Classic state championship, as they fell 2-1 (25-14, 16-25, 28-30) in the semifinals to eventual tournament winner Covington Holy Cross.

The Lady Aces started the tournament with two pool play wins Friday and another Saturday morning. They then won the first round of bracket play before losing to Holy Cross.

Wins came against Clinton County (16-25, 25-18, 25-13), Washington County (20-25, 25-17, 25-23), Wolfe County (25-16, 25-18) and Caldwell County (25-14, 16-25, 25-21).

Cecilia Clemens and Belle Wright were named to the All Tournament team. Clemens finished with 61 assists, 16 digs, 14 kills, six blocks and five aces. Wright posted 28 kills, 11 digs, 6 blocks and four aces.

Other leading contributors were Jenna Glenn (25 digs, 12 aces), Madeline Castlen (27 kills, 8 blocks, 5 aces, 2 digs), Cassidy Towery (37 kills, 5 digs, 4 blocks, 4 aces) and Cate Sights (26 kills, 7 blocks).

Catholic is back in action Tuesday when they play at Owensboro.


E-GALS GO 2-3 IN TAYLOR COUNTY TOURNAMENT
Apollo won a pair of matches Friday night but dropped all three Saturday in the Taylor County Throw-Down tournament.

The E-Gals beat Thomas Nelson 2-1 (25-21, 26-27, 17-16) and topped Ballard Memorial 2-0 (25-17, 27-26) to start the weekend. They were then swept in two sets by West Jessamine (25-18, 25-18), Christian Academy (25-23, 25-18) and Graves County (27-26, 25-14).

Apollo’s weekend efforts were led by Whitley Chambers (26 kills), Maddi Boswell (21 kills), Anslee Hopewell (28 assists, 8 aces), Tallie Satterfield (25 assists), Hallie Wilson (38 digs), Abby Spong (26 digs) and Camryn Kerwick (15 digs).

The E-Gals play again Tuesday at Daviess County.
