Led by Ainsley Taylor and Brady Terry, the Daviess County girls’ and boys’ cross country teams swept Tuesday’s city-county race, which included a perfect score by the Lady Panthers at Yellow Creek Park.

In the girls’ meet, Apollo took second and Owensboro finished third. For the boys, Apollo came in second, followed by Owensboro Catholic and Owensboro.

DC girls’ assistant coach Sydney Settle said the team did exactly what the coaches told them to do.

“We had them run in pods through the 2K and then they broke off from there,” she said. “Everyone did exactly what they were supposed to do. We just wanted to use this as a good workout night to pull everyone together, and it turned out well.

In addition to Taylor (19:53.05), other scoring runners for the Lady Panthers were Emily Ann Roberts (2nd, 20:00.01), Emily Rempe (3rd, 20:06.38), Destiny Miles (4th, 20:19.07) and Lauren Howe (5th, 20:41.53).

Settle said she had three girls who could have won the individual title and that it was a toss-up.

“We told the girls we don’t care who wins, we just it want it to be one of them,” she said. “But Ainsley had a great race.”

Apollo was led by Abby Rumage (13th, 22:27.01) and other scoring runners were Ahmira Pickett (17th, 23:19.86), Baylee Hare (18th, 23:29.48), Angel King (19th, 23:39.22) and Madalyn Hyland (21st, 25:08.23).

Owensboro’s scoring runners included Tasih Pettigrew (11th, 22:14.49), Ashley Colbum (15th, 22:57.21), Sabrina Kuegel (25th, 26:54.86), Alondra Villapando (29th, 29:17.90) and Claudette Villapando (30th, 30:13.03).

Owensboro Catholic did not have enough runners to place as a team, but senior Katie Hayden placed 9th in 21:39.31 and Kate Weaver was 14th, 22:49.74.

Trinity’s lone runner was Natalie Rhinerson (31st, 31:31).

In the boy’s race, Panthers head coach Mark Fortney said the boys had great effort coming back from racing on Saturday.

“We are running on some tired legs,” he said. “One through 20 was really solid today. We had a good pack — really close spread. Ideally, it’s what we wanted to see today.”

All scoring runners for the Panthers finished in the top 10 — Terry (1st, 16:16.96) Alex Adams (4th, 16:30.96), Justin Sheldon (6th, 16:58.83), Logan Gish (7th, 17:08.49) and Bryson McGary (9th, 17:17.93).

Apollo freshman Thomas Ashby was a close second place, finishing in 16:22.21. Other scoring runners for the Eagles were Blake Rigdon (5th, 16:51.90), Ethan Dych (10th, 17:27.45), Leland Smith (12th, 17:50.12) and Ryan Payne (17th, 19:04.08).
