Girls’ golfers tee off today in state tournament

Four local girl’s golfers begin play in the KHSAA State Championships today after qualifying as individuals with their performances in last week’s Region 2 Tournament.

Owensboro Catholic’s Emma Payne, Apollo’s Macey Brown, and Daviess County’s Holly Holton and Addison Heady will all compete in the state tournament held at Bowling Green Country Club.

All four golfers played at last year’s state tournament, though Holton and Heady competed in the team event for Daviess County. Payne and Brown both advanced to the second round last year as individuals.

There will be a cut after Monday’s 18-hole round, with the top 42 players (including ties) advancing to the second round of competition held on Wednesday.

Payne, a senior, will tee off at 8:39 a.m. on hole No. 10. She qualified after winning the Region 2 Tournament with a round of 75.

Brown, a sophomore, will tee off at 8:30 a.m. on hole No. 10. She qualified after finishing runner-up at region with a 76.

Holton, a sophomore, will tee off at 12:51 p.m. on hole No. 1. She finished third in the region tournament with a score of 79.

Heady, a sophomore, will tee off at 11:30 a.m. on hole No. 1. She earned the seventh individual qualifying spot at region with a score of 84.
