Local golfers to wrap up season in final round at state

Owensboro Catholic’s Jakob Wellman made the individual cut to advance to the final round of the state golf tournament, and the entire Daviess County team will also be back in action Saturday at Bowling Green Country Club.

DC’s Daniel Love posted the low round among local golfers Friday, and his 79 (7-over) left him in a tie for 41st entering day two. Love finished with two birdies and seven pars.

Wellman was close behind, tying for 52nd with an 80. After going 7-over on the front nine, Wellman bounced back with a 1-over back half. His round included one birdie and nine pars.

As a team, DC shot 337 and is currently in 10th place. Other scorers were Chris Salamah (82), Brady Huckleberry (87) and Nick Johnson (89), while Braden Whistle shot 91.

Salamah had two birdies and seven pars, while Huckleberry had seven pars. Johnson and Whistle each had one birdie and four pars.

All six golfers tee off early Saturday morning.
