Apollo senior Brooke Brown announced that she will continue her softball career at Union College during a signing ceremony at the high school on Sunday.

Brown, an infielder, has played with the E-Gals for several years and will close out her varsity career this spring.

“Playing softball for Apollo for seven years has taught me to be a great teammate, be very coachable and to never take a play off,” Brown said. “I can’t wait to see what this season brings for my team, and I think we have the chance to do great things.”

During her junior campaign Brown finished with a .391 batting average and led the team in runs scored (34), hits (36) and stolen bases (16). She also drove in 13 runs and drew 13 walks.

“My time at Apollo has been very fun and memorable for sure,” Brown said. “People always told me that high school flies by and I didn’t believe them, but now that I am a senior I realized that they weren’t lying about that.”

Brown said she knew Union was the right place for her after the first visit.

“I knew that I wanted it to be my future home,” she said. “The size of the campus, the class size and the softball program are all great. My first year there I plan to be very successful with softball and with my schooling. I am going to work just as hard when I get there as I have to get to this point.”

It’s been a dream to make it to the collegiate level since Brown was 7 years old. Though she’s said it’s a blessing to have the opportunity, she’s still focused on helping Apollo one last time.

“I am really excited to see what Union has in store for me,” she said. “I am ready to be playing with my new team, but I’m not going to rush the time because there’s a great season ahead of us for Apollo.”
