Owensboro Catholic’s season came to an end in the quarterfinals of the volleyball state tournament, as they lost in straight sets to North Oldham.

The Lady Aces battled early in each set, but the Lady Mustangs pulled away each time for a 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-21) victory in Saturday’s match at Valley High School.

Catholic senior Cecilia Clemens finished with 28 assists and six digs, and she was selected to the All Tournament Team. In Friday’s win, Clemens recorded 44 assists, six digs and five kills.

Other leaders in Saturday’s match for the Lady Aces were fellow seniors Cassidy Towery (16 kills, 4 digs) and Belle Wright (10 kills, 10 digs, 2 assists).

Also contributing were Jayden Bickett (5 digs), Jenna Glenn (5 digs), Madeline Castlen (4 kills), Cate Sights (2 kills) and Delanie Brey (2 digs).

In the first set North Oldham took their biggest lead at 24-16, a large deficit too big too overcome for the Lady Aces.

A 10-1 run for the Lady Mustangs put the second frame out of reach early.

Catholic stayed in the third set until the end, using a 5-1 run that included three kills by Towery to draw even at 20-20. North Oldham then won the next four points for some extra breathing room before closing out the match.

The Lady Aces finished the season 27-11, including 9th District and 3rd Region championships and their first trip to the state tournament since 2015.
