BOYS
PANTHERS WIN 3RD STRAIGHT TO START SEASON
The Panthers (3-0) capped off a perfect first week with a 65-53 win at Trigg County, their biggest margin of victory so far. DC jumped on top early for an 18-9 advantage after the first quarter and largely kept their distance the rest of the way.

Bo Stratton led the charge with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Ryan Thomson added nine points, seven rebounds and five assists. Also scoring were Camron Johnson (14), Logan Hillard (11), Joe Humphreys (7), Ian Bivens (4), Cole Burch (2) and Hunter Gibson (2).

RED DEVILS HOLD ON LATE FOR VICTORY
Owensboro (2-0) built up a sizable but had to fight off a furious fourth-quarter rally by University Heights to hold on for a 68-62 win in the Farmer’s Bank & Trust Tip-Off Classic at Muhlenberg County.

With help from a 23-point second quarter, the Red Devils built up a 52-34 advantage heading into the final period. The Blazers scored 28 points — with 17 from KJ Crump — in the fourth to get within striking distance, but OHS was able to knock down enough free throws late to secure the victory.

Jaiden Greathouse led the Red Devils with 19 points and went 5-for-5 at the charity stripe. Amari Wales added 16 points and Gavin Wimsatt scored 14. Also scoring were Tucker Hagan (8), Isaac Humphrey (7), Kenyata Carbon (3) and Imonte Owsley (1).

GIRLS
FLOYD’S DOUBLE-DOUBLE LEADS E-GALS IN WIN
Zoe Floyd scored 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, and Apollo (1-1) beat Hancock County 68-54 at home in the E-Gals’ first win. The Lady Hornets hit 10 3-pointers, but Apollo won the rebounding battle 51-34.

Kassidy Daugherty led Apollo with 20 points, while Amber Dunn grabbed 10 boards and scored five points. Other contributions came from Shelbie Beatty (6 rebounds, 5 points, 5 assists), Addison Carter (6 points, 6 rebounds), Amaya Curry (10 points) and Janaya Douglas (5 rebounds, 4 points).

CATHOLIC ROLLS TO WIN IN CLASSIC
The Lady Aces (2-1) had no trouble powering past Pope John Paul II (Hendersonville, Tenn.), rolling to a 56-36 victory in the Independence Bank Classic at Kentucky Wesleyan College. Catholic allowed only three points in the first quarter and led 27-10 at the half.

Hannah McKay again led the Lady Aces in scoring with 15 points, while Spencer Harvey added 12 and Isabella Henning had 10. Also scoring were Caroline Reid (9), Ally Maggard (8) and Lily Moore (2).

LADY PANTHERS BLOW BY GOLDEN EAGLES
Daviess County (1-1) raced out to a huge lead and never looked back in a 55-20 rout of Shawnee. The Lady Panthers didn’t allow more than seven points in any quarter, and they led 45-12 at the half.

Shea Mason led the scoring effort with 10 points, while Adylan Ayer and Maddy Cecil added nine points each. Also scoring were Brooklyn Daugherty (8), Ella Payne (8), Druree Glenn (6) and Kaylee Blandford (5).

MORRIS SCORES 33 IN LADY RAIDERS’ LOSS
Trinity’s Cassidy Morris scored 33 points — 25 in the second half — but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Raiders (1-2) were edged 64-63 by University Heights at home. Both teams struggled at the free throw line, with the Lady Raiders going 26-for-45 and the Lady Blazers going 17-for-27.

Also scoring for Trinity were Josie Aull (13), Morgan Kinsey (12) and Katherine Hibbitt (5).
