Tigers use late push to edge past Aces

Owensboro Catholic jumped out to an early lead, but Breckinridge County slowly chipped away and used a late push to edge the Aces in a 73-71 home win Monday night.

Using eight points from Ji Webb and five from Brian Griffith, Catholic (2-1) worked their way to a 24-11 advantage through the first quarter.

The Tigers nearly erased the deficit by halftime by closing the gap to 39-35, though the Aces pushed their lead to six points heading into the final frame.

Breckinridge County’s Kaeveon Mitchell scored 12 of the Tigers’ 21 points in the fourth period to help pull out the victory.

Griffith led Catholic with 20 points, while Webb added 16 and Drew Hartz had 14. Also scoring were Luke Scales (9), Gray Weaver (6), Andrew Riney (4) and Sam McFarland.

Mitchell scored a game-high 27 points. Also scoring were Justin Shrewsberry (17), Kason Morris (14), Eamon O’Donoghue (7), Brock Lucas (6) and Trey Irwin (2).
