After escaping with a come-from-behind overtime win a week ago, Owensboro Catholic used a steady and balanced attack to make easy work of a 70-48 victory in their rematch with Trinity on Tuesday night.

Ji Webb’s 18 points and 12 rebounds paced the Aces, while Andrew Riney also had an impressive outing with 10 points, nine assists and seven rebounds. Luke Scales scored 15 points off five 3-pointers, and Drew Hartz rounded out the double-digit scorers for Catholic with 13 points.

“A lot of balance,” said Aces’ head coach Tim Riley of his team’s performance. “Four guys in double figures, and six guys that scored six points or more. We moved the ball around a lot — 15 assists is a nice number.”

Catholic (10-6) built a double-digit lead by the end of the first quarter and nearly maintained it the rest of the way. Luke Scales drained consecutive 3-pointers in the final minute of the second quarter to send the Aces into halftime with a 37-21 advantage.

Trinity (11-6) started the second half with an 8-0 run but their offense went cold for the next five minutes, allowing Catholic to stretch their lead again and continue to pull away down the stretch.

It was a far cry from the meeting last week, when the Raiders were in control most of the night until the Aces mounted a late rally.

“I think we played the game with a little more respect for them,” Riley said. “We didn’t respect our opponent like we should have (last week).”

Webb was a dominant force down low once again for Catholic. He shot 5-for-6 from the field in the first half and finished 8-for-12, also knocking down both free throw attempts.

“When he gets a shot, it’s most likely going in,” Riley said. “He is so effective with the ball. He made a couple nice passes, rebounded well. He does a lot of things. He’s a presence around the basket.”

Trinity struggled from the field, making only two shots in the first quarter and six total in the first half. Landon Hall scored all six of their points in the opening period and finished with a team-high 14.

Landon Huff scored 10 points and hit the only two 3-pointers for the Raiders, while Ethan Howard also added 10 points.

Both teams return to action Friday with district matchups. Catholic will travel to Apollo, while Trinity will play at Edmonson County.
