The Daviess County boys’ bowling team fell just short of a state championship, as they finished runner-up after losing to Louisville Ballard in a tight title match Friday in Louisville.

The second-place finish is the best ever for the Panthers, who lost in the semifinals each of the last two years.

DC positioned themselves well for a title run by easily earning the No. 1 seed with a qualifying round total of 1,251 pins — far outpacing No. 2 seed Brown’s 1,165.

In the championship match, No. 11 seed Ballard edged out narrow wins in the first two games (202-193 and 211-195) before the Panthers cut their deficit in half by taking game three 220-177. Ballard ran away with game four 218-126 to claim the title.

The Panthers began bracket play by escaping with a 3-2 (188-166, 175-203, 170-183, 253-132, 178-135) win over No. 16 seed Ryle. They then beat No. 8 seed Boyle County 3-1 (233-152, 175-234, 192-186, 200-180) in the quarterfinals.

DC then rolled to a semifinal win by dispatching No. 12 seed North Bullitt 3-1 (226-210, 222-174, 161-202, 212-147).
