Owensboro Catholic used a stifling defense in a rout of Daviess County, as the Lady Aces rolled to a 54-19 win at the Sportscenter on Friday night.
Catholic (16-9) allowed only five baskets all night, limiting the Lady Panthers (8-13) to six points or less in each quarter. DC’s previous low in a game was 37 points.
“We’ve been relying on our defense,” said Catholic head coach Michael Robertson. “That’s kind of become our calling card. I thought we did a really good job tonight. They did get some open shots, but we made things difficult.”

Hannah McKay proved tough stop once again, as she led the Lady Aces with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting to go along with a game-high eight rebounds.
“She went to the offensive glass hard,” Robertson said. “She didn’t force a lot of stuff today. She just went out there and played, and I was really proud of her.”
The Lady Aces dominated the boards as a team, outrebounding the Lady Panthers 42-16 overall and 18-3 on the offensive glass.
“Tonight was one of the best nights until the very end that we’ve rebounded the basketball,” Robertson said. “We gave them one shot, and then we were out and pushing the ball. We didn’t necessarily always score, but we’re going to get back to work on that. If you’re playing good defense like we did, if you can get some easy buckets it’s going to make the game a whole lot easier for you.”
Catholic only led by three after the opening quarter, but a 16-3 run over the second quarter gave them a 24-8 advantage at the half. DC’s Adylan Ayer opened the second half with a pair of quick buckets before the Lady Aces closed the third period on a 15-1 run.
Catholic’s Lily Moore drained a mid-range jumper in the first minute of the fourth quarter, and her bucket meant all six seniors for the Lady Aces got on the board on their senior night.
In addition to McKay and Moore, seniors Isabella Henning (8), Randchelle Johnson (4), Caroline Reid (2) and Spencer Harvey (2) also scored.
Daviess County will play again Tuesday when they travel to Hancock County. They will then return home Friday for a rematch with Catholic.
The Lady Aces are back in action when they square off against the Lady Panthers in a game that could get them a step closer to earning the top seed in the 9th District tournament.
“We’ve got a week off to get ready for them again,” Robertson said. “That’s a big game. We still hold our own destiny, so we’ve got to take care of business and hopefully beat them again next week, then beat Owensboro to lock up that No. 1 seed.”
